Question about changing host!

hello,
I would like to know what happens to site ranking and other factors such as PR and SE positions, if i change my hosting provider.
This might sound like a newbie question. But i am really struck with this.

Others with more experience will probably weigh in on this, but I can't see how it would have an effect. That's assuming the set ups are equal and only the IP numbers change.

If the move to the new hosting company is performed technically correct there should be no problems. Consult the hosting company about the correct procedure. If they are really professional they have lots of experiences with situations like that.

And make sure that you keep both sites up and running for at least a month. That way you'll be sure that all DNS servers are updated.

Hello and welcome pnreddy,
I just changed host, about a month ago.
I set up the new host, transferred everything to new IP, changed name servers and then closed previous host account when name resolved to new host. In that order.
I didn't notice any glitches in visitors nor SE rankings nor PR.
I guess one should be sure that the new host is a good neighbourhood, though. ;)

I've changed hosts a few times over the last two years and haven't had any problems at all with serps.

The last move, two weeks ago, actually had the DNS change do most of its propagating 5 minutes after it was done... very impressive. Within several hours there were no hits on the old server, but I left the files there for 10 days just in case.
