Noticed that many people felt that the Hacker Safe mark seen on many web sites could make a nice target for hackers. All web sites already are a target for hackers. I worked for a bank in the UK where we did a four week trial in which we put a new server on line with simply an IP address (no domain name or external links to it) The server received over 20,000 hacker attacks. If a computer has an internet connection, someone somewhere is trying to discover its vulnerabilities using widely available scanning tools...what the people behind the Hacker Safe symbol are doing are simply keeping those sites abreast of known vulnerabilities.....how do you keep up with vulnerabilites? I spoke with the folks at ScanAlert (Hacker Safe) and they have a data base engine that is updated every fifteen minutes on the fly from hundreds of vulnerability sources...sounds fair to me....they even have a patent pending on that engine!
