at work i am being asked to design a site for that may possibly have a feature of text-messaging users when it is updated - this doesn't have to be automated, and it would be beneficial to just be able to text message all those signed up to the site every once in a while. Where does one get a service such as this and for how much?
Googling for this gives alot of companies who don't really mention prices? Can I do this without a third party? or via o2/t-mobile etc?

do a search for "bulk sms" and you will see lots of UK companies, who specialise in this.

The lowest costs are going to be around 2.2p per message sent.

Do a search like Shak says - there are lots out there.

Depends on your host. The one I use lets you have as many as 50 mailing lists on each domain. What you do with those lists (AS LONG AS THEY'RE COMPOSED OF REGISTERED USERS!) is up to you. I run several bulk-type updates-when-they-happen lists on various sites hosted there....

[edit: typos.... *sigh*]
