Migration from W2K to W2003 Problem

Template Persistent Cache initialization failed

A client has recently attempted twice to move from Windows Server 2000 to Windows Server 2003. Their e-commerce sites consist mainly of ASP programming interfacing with an Access database.

Each time they have migrated to the 2003 box, they have experienced poor stability. The sites, which are running under IIS6 periodically become unresponsive and page requests never get fulfilled. Later on, the log files always display the following "Active Server Pages" error in the Application event log:

"Error: The Template Persistent Cache initialization failed for Application Pool 'DefaultAppPool' because of the following error: Could not create a Disk Cache Sub-directory for the Application Pool. The data may have additional error codes."

After researching this on the Microsoft web site and applying the recommended changes found in knowledge base article Q332097, AND working with senior IIS Microsoft technical support by phone - we have been unable to resolve this issue. Therefore the sites randomly drop and the server has to be rebooted frequently. Very frustrating, putting it mildly.

Has ANYONE else experienced this, and if so what is the cause / fix? We are strongly considering going back to W2K but are very keen to save the many hours invested migrating.

ANY help would be most greatly appreciated, we must make a decision within the next 24 hours whether to drop 2003 or not.

Hello,

We have recently (just last weekend in fact) migrated from NT4 to W2K3 and are experiencing very similar symptoms (among many others) - frequent unresponsive sites. We're using SBS 2003. Please reply here if you need any other info - TIA!
