Security Log is getting alot of hits these days

My firewall log.

I have never seen hit on my securty logs before a month ago, at that time is was 2 hits, now I get 100 a day, it is a little scary. Another thing I have never got so manny virus emails, then the last 3 weeks.

Is the firewall log hits normal?

They may be hits against your firewall to check for an open port for the recent viri. Some variations like to create an SMTP on open ports to propogate.

I'm sure if you do some searching you can find out if there is something specific you can suspect of hitting your firewall so much.

I have a computer in my office that sends out 40,000+ newsletters (opt in) a week. It gets it's firewall POUNDED. It seems like anything like that will result in a lot of intrustion attempts.
