Looks like the next verison of Mambo (5.0) will be completely run on a XML-RPC engine!
Just a few of the things you will be able to do: (Stolen from the thread)
1) A Systray application for Windows that monitors your sites. Using a simple ping methodType set to, for example, every 10 mins (small impact).
2) Components could interact with each other e.g. a shop component could bring in products from another site ( cross marketing and fertilization)
3) The admin interface need not necessarily be written in PHP anymore. You could have Java, ASP, Perl, KDE or Python one.
4) You could provide editors/publishers with a Windows based content editor. This way you don't have to provide a login on the site itself, they use a GUI to add/submit/edit content. They could then create content offline (on their Palm?) and sync when the get online.
5) Blogger feeds could easily be displayed on a MOS site.
6) You could have a module on one site that lists recent upates from another site aka latest news but not restricted to the site it is running on.
7) We 'could' (please note the could!) set up a central repository and have MOS sites voluntarily update the repository. This way you could build a large online database of sites running MOS.
8)You could write a Java app for a mobile phone to turn your site on/offline
9) Due to the XML/RPC engine, you would be able to easily pull in content from any of your site or come to that anyone elses.
We haven't nailed all the details yet, but it would work something like:
1) Menu->Content->New Item
2) Item Type = Remote
3) Site URL
This would then pull in all available public items, you could then select one and that would be it.
Then when you go to your site, some items would be pulled from your own database, other items would be pulled in via XML/RPC from another remote site.
WOW.. this blows any other CMS out of the water... I heard a alpha version would be release in august/september and a stable version in december/jan...
There is also a Roadmap for mambo 5.0's developement:

Looks like I'm going to be changing CMSs soon!
