User Signup - Mistakes?

A number of our users have password problems?

Hi all,

We’ve got a custom sign-up page, and we seem to be having a problem with user passwords.

We take the password twice to compare the two fields. We also offer a little reveal password eye.

If passwords do not match - the user cannot sign up.

I would say for every 100 sign ups, 1 user will email us to say they cannot log in.

Does anyone with experience of user signups have a similar number of sign up problems?

We aren’t sure if this is just user error (typing wrong password twice, or copy and pasting wrong password, or password manager not storing it right), or if we’ve got a problem with our signup code.

I've have the odd problem logging into some sites using certain browsers, with and without javascript and/or adblocker-type software. Palemoon, for example, and sometimes falkon. Can't say offhand which others or the circumstances. Also, some browsers foul up on the awful reCaptcha.

I assume there is nothing stupid in the form fields like one form accepting tabs and the other not.

Only 1 in 100? I'd LOVE to have those kinds of numbers! LOL My sites are probably more like 1 in 20, seriously. And in almost every case it's something like capitalization, or they used a number of symbol that they forgot (which isn't required on my end, so it's just something they did).

And it's gotten worse over time. I can't explain it, but people have gotten dumber and dumber and dumber.

I mean, at least once a week someone messages me on Facebook and I direct them to my site... then they reply that they don't have internet.

One thought... maybe somehow disable the option for them to copy and paste from the password to the second password field? That would force them to retype it, anyway.

1% is insignificant and surfly the fault of users. Fat fingers. So don't bother with this.

unless this were a highly critical or high visibility application, i would be happy with 99% success in the navigation of a complicated set of user and system interactions.
