I'm having trouble coming up with a good site name that isn't allready taken and thought I'd start a thread that might help with some ideas, and maybe eventually help others with the same problem.

Basically I'm looking for the KEYWORD's that follow in
sitetypeKEYWORD.com...

Like say for example you wanted to start up a lyrics site.
lyricZONE.com might be a good example.

I'm looking for more of those words in CAPS.

So here are the one's i came up with:

(sitetype)STATION.com
(sitetype)ZONE.com
(sitetype)ONLINE.com
(sitetype)PLACE.com
(sitetype)SITE.com

I was wondering if anyone had a list or could add to this list.

Just thought of some others:

(sitetype)WORLD.com
(sitetype)CENTER.com
(sitetype)HUB.com
E(sitetype).com
(sitetype)UNIVERSE.com
(sitetype)CONNECTION.com
(sitetype)PLANET.com
(sitetype)CAFE.com

Any more?

(sitetype)portal

but honestly, if you look at the big boys... the majority have no keywords at all.

amazon
baresandnoble
ebay
kozmo
microsoft
half
slashdot
etc.. etc...

A domain like pandalabs dot com (i have no affiliate with the site at all) is great because panda is easy to remember and labs is easy to spell.

i(word)
(word)web
(word)net
(word)world
(word)guide

in my opinion though, if you can get a brandname domain you'll be happier in the end.

I do agree that brand names are better, but to be honest, (and I hope this doesn't break the TOS) I want to make a guitar tab website, and I just can't think of a brand name that would go with this kind of website.

Thanks for all the ideas by the way...

Hmm, just had an idea... How about something like Guitargle (Google spin off), I wouldn't really use that one cause how booble got in trouble with Google, and I don't really like it, but I like the idea of adding some letters like that. (not the idea of spin offs from other sites).

Ahh ha! Maybe like Guitarget would be good! Combo of guitar and target! lol, well it kind of sounds too much like guitar and get, but I'm makin progress... ;)

Guitarantula maybe? (I'm lookin through dictionary, lol)

I am not going reveal PF's domain name that I helped him pick out - but there are a million great domains waiting to be registered, and he got one.

I dont know if you chose Guitargle or not, but that sounds 100% more professional than Guitar123 or something like that.

You absolutely NEED the word tabs in your site name if you are making a guitar tabulature site...infact, you'd probably be best not even including the word GUITAR. People will often search for 'kryptonite tabs' 'blink 182 tabs' 'smells like teen spirit tabs' etc. usually not including the word Guitar.

[nameboy.com...] is good for helping you choose domain names, and so are [deleteddomains.com...] (watch out for trademarks), [directnic.com...] 's expired domain names section, and [dnwiz.com...]

I've used all of these great resources for trying to find the perfect domain name. And the dictionary and thesaurus, as seen earlier, are pretty good.

Congrats on settling on a name.

Creativity/origanility wins hands-down, in my book. Folks shouldn't waste a word in their domain name that'll become meaningless (if it isn't already) to customers, such as "portal" or "site", due to over-exposure/overuse.

Here are some things I try to factor in (yes, you already picked it... but).

- It should be easy to spell. Half the time someone will just say your domain to someone else as a reference, if it is not spelled like it sounds, people will have a hard time finding you.

- It should be easy to remember and not lost amoung your competition. For example, if you have guitarworld.com, guitarhouse.com, guitarlounge.com as your competition, you should try to think of something outside of the box.

- Keep it short and sweet.

- Make sure it looks good written out.
