Hello,

My site deals with widgets. We offer info before the release, i.e. some details on what to expect etc and after release tha actual specifications.

trouble is that before release we use page say x.aspx and after release y.aspx Both the pages have same content but x.aspx has links which cannot be clicked (not hyperlinks ..disabled) whereas y.aspx has links which can be clicked( hyperlinks activated). We do this so that information that is available after release can be posted immediately and those links can be activated.

trouble is G indexes x.aspx however when we remove this page from the menu and replace it with y.aspx , it still does not index the y.aspx since the content is same except that y.aspx has links which are activated. Even when sitemap, main menu etc y.aspx is linked yet G ignores it and continues to index x.aspx . deleting the x.aspx will lead to a drop in visitors. My programmer says its not possible to redirect the user to the y.aspx from x , since the pages are dynamic. also even if it is possible, with a fair number of pages redirecting to another ; I dont think G will like it.

One may argue the logic of keeping 2 pages simply when links have to be posted, but believe me, the site is huge and runs into hundreds of pages. thus necessitating use of dynamic pages and x / y aspx pages.

What should i do so that once i have replaced the x with the y, G does the same in its index? Keeping the y.aspx link as the main feature on a PR 6 did not help either. it still shows the x.aspx in this case. As soon lots of pages will b replaced in this manner, I will have significant loss of pageview. please suggest.

Why cant you just active the links on the x?
google doesnt like sites that duplicate content.
