Windows startup file...

I recently uninstalled a MySQL for windows program and when I start the computer it does the searching dialog box thing. I can't for the life of me remember which .ini file will have the string I need to remove. Can anybody name it?

What version of windows, plus there is more than one place it can be called from.
Check your startup folder (start menu..programs..startup) if you are on 98/me/2000 you can just right click and select delete.
It may be in your registry in which case you will have to poke around a little ( [tarbard.co.uk...] may help)

Sorry you said ini file didnt you :) .. goto start..run and run sysedit - hey presto all the ini files will be there.

Since we are on the subject of Windows startup. Does anyone know how to clean out old lines from the Startup tab in the MSCONFIG panel?

I know Win ME has a little clean button below the list(finally MS used some of their last brain cells) but I cannot find a way to clean it out in Win 98.

The files that are "checked" on the list show up in the Registry under the Run Services section but I cannot find out the list as a whole. Does it exist somewhere or will I have to just check them all and then go delete them from the registry? I would try it but I don't want to make things worse.

What happened was I went in there before to uncheck some startup software and then when I uninstalled them I forgot to re-check them so that they would be deleted. Now I have a list of 10 programs that do not exist plus a few duplicates as well.

I'm not sure if this will help but I've always run a "scanreg/fix" from the c prompt in dos to clean up the registry.

I'm no longer on 98, but I'm pretty sure TweakUI can do it without going around your registry deleting keys (always gave me the creeps)...
