Could it be recreated these days

Okay, I think everyone knows about Save Karyn these days. If you don't, she was the woman who pulled herself out of a HUGE credit card debt by putting up a site begging for people to send her money. She admitted she got herself in the situation by buying thousands upon thousands of dollars worth of designer clothes, gadgets and other basically worthless stuff. So she isn't a charity case by any means. People still sent her money.

Do you think that this sort of phenomenom could be recreated? I am not really in the market to try but it always baffled me that it worked in the first place and I wonder why charities can't find the money, but this woman did.

I think it could be done again, but would need a new publicity hook. The novelty of the appeal and widespread publicity was what did it, IMO. If your local newspaper ran a story about your inability to feed your 23 cats, I guarantee people would send you money. The other big plus for Karyn was that the large number of web users & visitors meant she had to convert only a small percent to contributors.

A slightly different appeal (I think it was getb**bs.com, but that seems to be an infinite popup p*rn site now) also worked - it provided mammary enhancements for an underendowed but underfinanced young woman.

So, if you plan to launch SaveHannymyluv.com, think of something creative! ;)
