Good Idea?

Having Domain names for each part of my site?

I run a main site: widgetworld.com

I'm adding a store, a forum, and a business directory.

To help get some more stuff on google and for techincal reasons, each one of these new sections will be in a subdomain of the first:

forum.widgetworld.com
store.widgetworld.com
directory.widget.com

However! I was thinking having each subdomain have its own domain name:

So "forum.widgetworld.com" would be called "widgettalk.com" etc.. etc...

My thinking was that google would like that widgetworld.com was so big, but users would like the fact that they could just type in something a little more memorable that forum.widgetworld.com

Good idea? Stupid Idea? Non-good-google idea?

Personally, I would say no. It's more obvious that forum.widgetworld.com and store.widgetworld.com belong to the same person/company then widgettalk.com and widgetstore.com.

I don't know about bringing in more people, but it could confuse the people that do go to your site.

I don't really know how it could drive more people. Besides return visitors, but isn't it better to have the main page more prominent, rather than them just considering the subsection when thinking about whatever the page offers?
