How to weed out broken links.

If you have several thousand pages to work thru.

I tried my best in this time consuming effort to weed out all broken links and other sources of misinformation that can cause the webserver logs to constantly show me 'Errors' in the logs.

Was thinking of perhaps a server side perl script or product that can do this for me.

Or maybe another method of identifying where the errors are coming from.

Could also setup a custom 404 page with PHP that will notify of "broken links" and tell you where they came from (your site or another).

That Xenu Sleuth thing has been running across my site; wonder what it was and why it was showing up.
