Changing IP address of DNS server

I'm hosting on a shared server at the moment and the shared server also acts as my primary DNS (same IP address) I'm moving to a dedicated server and it will also act as my main DNS server (keeping the same FQDN but a different IP address) My question is, how's this likely to affect the move to the new server?

I understand that it's the job of the DNS to point to the IP address of the web site but I'm a bit boggled by the DNS changing its IP address at the same time. Is it a better idea to move DNS first and then sites or vice versa? Any help appreciated

If possible, I would leave it up at the old server AND put your site up at it's new location. Then update the server IP info. After about 3 days the propagation should be complete and you can remove the files from the old server.

This helps to ensure that your visitors will not miss anything.
