Linking to my IRC channel

Hello all,

I've seen a few sites that allow you to connect to their IRC channel by clicking on a link and then just typing in a username, once you've done that you're taken to the channel (I think it's done in Java) - where can I find out more about how to do this?

all the ones I've seen are done using java applets. (there seems to be a lack of flash solutions - anyone know why?)

I'll send you a sticky with a couple of commercial applets I've looked at.
