Links Pages: Subdirectory vs. Subdomain

If SEs might devalue reciprocal links, why not place links in subdomain?

I read several posts here claiming that Google et.al may start devaluing reciprocal links in the future. Sure it's impossible to predict how they can do that - but you bet they will one day, or so it seems.

So, I just thought that instead of linking out from one of my site's subdirectories, I could move all my links pages to a new subdomain:

www.mysite.com/links/ ==>> www.links.mysite.com/

Since subdomains are treated by SEs as separate stand-alone domains, such linking will not be reciprocal in the SE's eyes, while still allowing webmasters to swap links pointing to their home pages.

Anyone has experimented with this at all? Any comments?

They may start devalueing subdomains also.

But how can a subdomain be devalued?

I just thought that the idea of reciprocal linking for boosting SE ranking is getting bad rep with SEs. So, if there are 2000 external links to other sites and those other sites also have 2000 links back to your site (i.e. from same domain back to same domain) - this is not a good policy any longer.

But if I put all these 2000 links to go out from www.links.mysite.com but the other 2000 sites point back to www.mysite.com - this way there is no reciprocal linking, because SEs treat subdomains as separate domains.
