How do you make money from these ads?

Hi,

I'm still learning about paid placement advertising. How do people get the "Ads by Google" on their site? And do they get paid for it by pay per click?

Also, i know about domainpark from google. What is the pay rate on that? I read on the site you need 750,000 visits. Is that Unique visits or is that hits? And whats the difference from hits and visits, its kind of confusing.
