I have just recently made the decision to do websites for pay. I have deployed a few of my own and for friends. I am doing it half for the money and the other half for the love of doing them. Long way to go but plenty of desire.

Anyway, a couple of things confuse me. First off, pricing. Not so much the initial website but hosting and maintenance. I have a really good host that I can provide to whatever customers I get. But what is a reasonable fee to charge the customer and what should I provide to them for this fee? Take for example an insurance agent friend of mine. His site is finished and I honestly don't know what I can do for him now. If it were my own site, I would be periodically checking it.

Hope I haven't been too vague with this. Any good links to read on, thank you very much.

Appreciate the help.

You could bill a monthly maintenance charge which will cover all additions, etc. Or you could charge as needed.

Charge a markup for webhosting too.

monthly maintenance charge is good. He feels secure if he wants to have changes and you get some extra-money every month. But make sure, that you just guarantee a specified amount of time included in the monthly fee.
