Where is a good place to start to find out what goes into hosting websites? It's probably a long way off, but I just want to get an idea of what's involved. I know a little about linux and apache, but I'm sure there's more to it.

do a site search here for "Hosting Websites" and you'll find lots of information.

Thanks. Maybe I'll put that idea out of mind for a while. From what I'm reading, there can be a lot of headaches.

You could always become a reseller of another hosting company. Your clients will think you are hosting their site - but actually a reputable company will be hosting your content on servers with redundant power supplies, raid hard drives, tape backups...etc.

There are quite a few reputable hosting companies out there. I use Interland - but again, there is more than one hosting company that has reseller plans. Just make sure you know you're dealing with a reputable company that won't leave you and your customers high and dry!
