Problems with finding nameservers - and propagation period

I have two domains - one with yahoo, the other is a blank website redirecting a yahoo store. The domain name registered with Network Solutions was tampered with recently and the nameservers were changed to point to a new server. After we changed them back, the site has been down(DNS Error). when I called/emailed Network solutions -they weren't able to help.

It has been four days - is this a common propagation period? I was told it should be 24-36 hrs.

What are the A Records?
Is it important for me to change the A Records? What happens if the A records are tampered with (one of my collegues may have done that)?
Sorry for all the jabber. Please help!

hebs,

Welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com]!

Typical propagation for me has been about four hours recently. So, yes, you should check your A records.

A Records "point" a specific domain name to a specific IP address. If they're wrong, you'll have problems.

Here's a pretty good place to start:

Thanks for that, Jim.

I have another question. Is the A Record the same as the dns ip. For Ex. My DNS is ns8.san.yahoo.com - IP 66.218.71.205.

Is this the IP that I need to enter into the A Records?
If not, where would I be able to get the information for the A Records?

I went to the account manager in my Yahoo store and found a couple of A records there - but they are different than the above. (these are A Records for another domain - also redirected to the same store) - 66.218.85.169 and 66.218.85.169 - what do I do.
I've checked out DNS OVERSIMPLIFIED - still confused.
