For some reason, the ftp protocol is broken between you and the web host. Other protocols seem to be fine. If you have rebooted and it is still broken (but you can ftp to other places), then ask the host's tech support to look into it.

you need to setup your ftp program properly.
most ftp programs are setup the same

host name: usually yourdomain.com

unsername: the same username that you use for cpanel
password: the same as for cpanel

that should be all you need, it will than get you to
your root for your domain. from there you can play all
you want.

luck,
robert

if you have recently installed a firewall on your computer make sure that it is set up to allow the ftp to access. I know that my firewall. Zone Alarm Pro will not let me connect at all to ftp when it is on. I havent set up the access properly for it yet.

Yes, I think its the firewall. But the firewall is controlled by my ISP remotely and they will note remove it. Is there anything I can do on my own to bypass?

Also, apart from ftp, is there any other program I can use to connect to my files on the server on the web?

you could try using 3rd party software to connect to ftp and see if that works. Something like cuteFTP or smartFTP. Other than that I cant really think of anything else.

I never heard of a ISP controlling a firewall on your system.

If you have control panel for your hosting account you can work with your files that way.
It might be a proxy kind of thing. You should ask your host how to access your files.

luck,
