Adding Continuous Sound Throughout My Site

Adding Continuous Sound Throughout My Site

Hello,
I would like to add continuous music throught my site. Just one file, but I don't want it to be reloaded with every new page. Until now, the only way I knew of doing this was to use an iFrame.

My predicament is that now I have SEO to think about. My question to you is:

-Does the utilization of an iFrame hinder the search process?

-If not: Then what is the proper/improper way to use the iFrame?

-If so: Do you recommend any alternative methods?

Thanks a bunch

Welcome to WebmasterWorld tennisdino :)

Do you recommend any alternative methods?

Yep. Don't add any sound.

Continuous music on a web site is a pretty good way of scaring visitors away.

You might just get away with it if you are in the music business ...

If you really must, give a link to play the music, not stop it.

Even if you are in the music business, be cautious about using sound.

If you do, be SURE to provide an easy and obvious way for users to turn it off.

My predicament is that now I have SEO to think about.

Others have stated this but I'll add, SEO will do you no good if your visitors leave ;)

I think there are a lot of visitors like me who leave a site immediately as soon as any music or sound starts even if I really want to see the site. I don't even look for an off button, I just want outta there.

Really, think long and hard before you add music. Imagine if someone just put their kid to sleep, forgot they had the volume turned up and visited your site.

I thank you all for your input. Ideally I would like to stay as far away from sound as possible. Unfortunately, it's imperative that I include sound.

I would appreciate some specifics on the proper method I should use to make the song continuous (without using frames).

Thanks a bunch,

If you take the advice to let users turn the music on manually, then you might be able have a popup that plays the music. Maybe stick a little control panel of sorts with start/stop/pause controls if you're ambitious.

cloak it - use frames or iframe for your user site and feed the SEs a static site without the frames and music - but don't tell them I told you to do it ;)

Thanks Oilman. In all honesty, will I get penalized for cloaking my pages?

Unfortunately, it's imperative that I include sound.

You refer to them as "my" pages, not "my client's" pages.

If your paycheck depends on it, do what ya gotta do, but if it's your own site, it's NOT imperative.

couldn't you do a javascript that , onload would open a new window in the background and play the music and onunload, close the window and therefore the music.

I don't know how, I just thought it might be easy to do.

luck,
