Adware/Spyware Removal

How to get rid of this?

There are TONS of programs available out there that claim to detect and remove all adware/spyware from your PC. I want to detect and get rid of all of this from my PC and was wondering if any of you have a suggestion on how to accomplish this. Which programs are best? How have some of you done this and how do you keep Spyware/adware from returning?

AdAware 6 is a nice companion to SpyBot... I use both when doing my daily sweep!
