OK lets face it...
Simply being on this site means you are involved to some extent in web development. Some of us will be working full time within the industry, but I would say a very high percentage of us are simply interested in web development as a hobby.

For me, it's a challenge, I just like building something that other people will view. It's almost like one of those "I did that" moments.

I also see it as very educational. When I bought my first internet pc within a week I was asking myself "how does internet stuff work?" within a fortnight I had a website.

So why do you like this crazy subject. :)

Mack.

Circ 1995 or so
As stated by others, one of the wonderful challenges of this business is that things change so fast that 9 years ago seems like it was the last century. Come to think of it...it WAS the last century. ;)

I have to agree with txbaxters comment, For me it's the gratifaction of unravelling a puzzle. Through the design and development of a site many problems will occur - but confidently they are approached with the knowledge that all of them are solvable - whether that be a snippet of Javascript that does'nt quite do what it's told, to the holy grail of putting your site top for chosen keywords. Everyday holds new challenges - the playing field is as rough, as unpredictable as the ocean - but we all sit in the same boat. Just that some of us are more experienced sailors than others.

I am still findimg my sea legs!

Also recieving a few quid for your efforts makes the whole process rewarding away from the screen ;)

For it was when I first found the web back in 1998, I thought id like one of website things but couldnt figure out what exactly I should complete one for.

I had a basic IT background and was really interested in learning how to do it.

I like the idea that I can sell to someone on the other side of the world whos will never met me but trusts me with their money. Amazing really.
