I have 3 hotmail accounts which usually receive several spams per day, however for last 48 hours I havent received a single spam!
Can anyone confirm?

My regular email has been receiving loads of spam the past 48 hours but today has been less than the normal.

My spam trap has accumulated 242 messages since this time yesterday. Add about 20 that got through into Outlook Express. I seem to get MORE than usual at weekends for some reason.

No spam for 48 hours?

Coincidence, or what?

So,

you think that Saddam was behind all those 'Nigerian' Spam mails?
Obviously, in addition to being an offline dictator, he also ran numerous "online pharmacies"?
Could this have ben a deliberate attempt to poison the "decadent West"?

Hope, this is true! Then, I can look forward to a SPAMless future...

This may have slowed some of the activity.

Same with me on my hotmail account. I remember last time this happened, they had changed my spam filter to a medium setting from its low setting. That pissed me off because I could be missing emails from school. This doesn't seem to be the case this time, but I'm still wary of any emails I might be missing that I shouldn't be....

My Hotmail spam seems to have halved. Probably to do with that spam king being arrested in Virginia.

>Same with me on my hotmail account.

Ditto. Sapm on Hotmail is a fraction of normal over the past two days. Only one spam e-mail since Friday evening - almost unbelievable. I sent an e-mail to my hotmail account last night just to make sure it was still working :)

>spammer arrested

If so, that would back up my contention that a mere handful of people are responsible for the vast majority of spam. I suspect there is some filtering at work as well, though.

I don't think it's likely that it's just a small number of people doing the spamming, there's too much money involved in the business, lots of people would want to get into it. I'd say it's more likely that hotmail changed something... unfortunately, I have emails that go to my junk mail folder deleted immediately, so I don't know if more of them are being filtered there. Is there anyone who doesn't automatically delete them that's noticed an increase?

On my yahoo address, I'm still getting about the same amount of email in that junk mail folder and still plenty of sex spam in the yahoo groups, so I really think it's just a hotmail thing.

My spam seems to be coming very much in waves: Several days with little spam and then suddenly 5 or 10 in few minutes. Are others seing such a pattern?

And indeed the majority look as if they belong to a limited number of "families". The spammails from such a "family" may be about different topics and they use different mail addresses, but they have the same look-and-feel.

This morning there were a couple of spammails in the spam filter and since then I have had only one, all from the same "family". Just looks like a normal, quiet day.

It is now a month after the original posting of this thead, and my hotmail spam continues to be so low as to be almost non-existent (well, really low, anyway). I guess it is because of improved filtering, but the change is dramatic.

Yahoo seems to let a lot of spam reach the inbox, no argument there. However, my experience for many months has been that near on 98% of such spam is shuffled off automatically by yahoo to a bulk mail folder.

I have found very few false positives when I scan the bulk folder name and subject lines. A rapid review and then dumping the bulk folder contents into oblivion takes only a couple of seconds.

Now, back before the bulk folder came along, yeah, spam at yahoo was a much bigger hassle, but for me at least, it's almost become a non-issue.

And no, that's not a request for anyone to go sign me up

I have noticed that I've had a lot of automatic notifications on my phpbb forum bounced back to me from mainly hotmail accounts.
