According to the BBC News [newsvote.bbc.co.uk], software pirates in Malaysia have gone and done it.

Software industry sources told the BBC it was the piracy coup of the decade... Malaysian pirates are among the worlds most audacious... But this is possibly the pirates boldest move to date.

Just reading this will have to see if it is available in Thailand yet. Not that I would buy it of course just curious.

Problem is that whenever they give out copies some are going to get lost, somwhere, somehow.

I would be interested in seeing what's going on with their ballyhooed search integration.

The old build being sold for $1.58 in Malaysia doesn't have the WinFX file system, so I doubt any search features are present - I've had various builds of Longhorn hitting my sites for 4-5 months now.

Thinking it has been "pirated" is questionable at best - this kind of leaking is how MS has built markets in many Asian countries (not to mention the US in earlier days).

I've got a legitimat copy of Longhorn (tester for M$) and the illegitimat copy. The illegitimat copy is nothing more than XP with a few tweaks to the visual styles.

The copy was distributed at the conference and is missing alot of what make Longhorn different. Including the new filesystem and error catcher.

It's preAlpha. Which means the good stuff hasn't been put into it yet. I doubt search is in there in any other fashion than what is in ie right now.

And not only that, there is no doubt tons of debug bloat in there as well; I can't imagine that it would do anything fast.
