Yep, it loads oddly alright. I glanced at the source code... I'd guess it's a javascript problem, although I'm not at all sure on that. Why don't you try the Javascript forum, forum91?
I found with slicing, I circumvent the background images by using the CSS position attribute to arrange just the foreground slices. For example, recently I did a page with a banner and an image in the right margin. I cut out 2 slices forming a sort of "T-square". Then, I inserted them as 2 separate gif images in the code, ignoring the surrounding slices.
