Redirect 301

Is this correct?

I have read on the forum that 301's can be detramental in google, due to a bug! Is this still the case?

I created a site with a large number of subdomains and decided it would be better to redesign without them, which I believe is the feeling on WebmasterWorld.

I have used the 301 redirect from all the subdomain URLs to non-subdomain URLs.

Should I be using a different method now, or is this still the correct procedure?

Thanks
Shady!

I know that META redirects can cause unexpected problems with which page gets indexed, but AFAIK 301 redirects are the preferred method and supported by Google.
