I have noticed with time that the internet get more and more tricky, if you are concerned about privacy, spam mail, and other things that interupts a great time on the internet full with "everything".

1. the internet is like a city, dont go into the bad neighbourhood if you dont want any suprise of any kind.

2.Get a anti virus program or update it

3.Get a spyblocker and spy destroyer like ad-aware and update it.

4.Have a computer cleaner, so you get all the loost fils and other stuff of your computer.

5.Get a good spam mail protection and never open a email from a unknow sender, watch out for attached file from friends and other. If you have a email on your site place it like this:
webmaster at domain.com or place a image with email without link.

Feel free to ad good info how to surf the net.

I've given this tip before but it's worth repeating.

You can use Internet Explorer's security zones to shield yourself from pop-up hell by turning off Active Scripting on your Internet Zone.

Then, set the default security level for "Trusted Sites" to "Medium" (which is the same as the Internet Zone is by default); and add your favorite sites or anything else that you wish to allow to use JavaScript etc. to your "Trusted Sites" zone.

Or use Mozillla...

Seem to have missed an obvious one: Download MS security patches religiously.

Watch for those little pop-ups and pop-unders and close them as soon as you see them.

If you're on a dedicated connection of any sort get a firewall installed!

Thanks to the threat of identity theft and because you never know when someone is going to be at odds with something you say or do online:

-- Never use your real name for anything including email and chat names.

-- Never post personally-identifiable information including birthdate, mother's maiden name, etc.

-- Never tell people who you work for.

Unfortunately, some people will take advantage of others and sleep quite soundly at night. The great thing about the internet is that it puts you in contact with millions of people you wouldn't have ever had the opportunity to be in touch with. It also puts you in touch with some real a**holes.

Whether or not you have a dedicated connection! I got hit with MSBlaster precisely because I was careless, having only a dial-up connection.

Never deal (I don't mean just chatting, but actually dealing) with persons who are not ready to disclose their true identity and affiliation.

Believe me, anonymity is only really needed to those who either feel ashamed for their online deeds, or try to avoid retribution for them.

Been using a Mac running OS X for the last couple of years and it has been bliss, got fed up with bugs, patches etc etc. If you can't afford a Mac or don't want to change then I recommend a visit to Mozilla.org. Firebird is great and Thuderbird is non too shabby!

That's very true. Even Macs (as hard as they try) can't protect the user from themselves.
