What is the classification meta tag all about? I noticed one of my competitors uses it and he ranks very high in most search engines on a major keyword. Is it helpful in ranking for your select important keywords?

Thanks,
Jeremy

Here is a recent thread [webmasterworld.com] on the same subject.

I beleive that Google assigns the same significance to this Meta tag <meta name="ranking" content="first position please"> :)

The earliest reference to "Classfication" that I've found is the documentation for Netscape Compass Server [developer.netscape.com], back in 1997. Also appeared in Netscape Gold, which caused many to think "Classification" was more general-use that it really was.

Completely useless in the real world.
