In WS_FTP Pro - choose your connection, choose Advanced properties, choose the Startup tab - enter:

-la

in the Remote File Mask field.

HI
Dont see a startup tab. This is the latest version. If i click the connection, choose edit for the properties, then go to advanced it just says:
server type
host type
firewall

You must have the LE or whatever they call the non-Pro version - check all the options for "Remote File Mask" - that's what you want to change.

Well, I also have LE version :). This is how you view the hidden files in LE:

1) Login into your account and go to the directory where your htaccess file is located.
2) on the right side you'll see buttons: "ChgDir", "MkDir", and under "MkDir" you'll see the blank field to type things into.
3) type .htaccess into it (well, you call it .htacess, but I guess you've made a typo :)
4)Click "Refresh" button and you'll see the file.

To hide .htaccess again and to see the normal directory files, erase the word .htaccess from the field and click "Refresh" again.

BTW, you can see any hidden file that way, just have to type its name.

Hope this helps :)

Follow Natashka advice but in the white space type in -la as bcolflesh mentioned. This will allow you to see all hidden/system files. ;)

thanks for the help guys and girls. Actually this is the pro version :-) Maybe you have an older version because the newer one is quite different to the last vesion. Anyway in the end only one thing worked. Typing *.htaccess into the mask box. (yep it was typo Natashka :-))

You people did it again: Made my life as a webmaster a bit more easy and showed me a possibility of making my websites a bit better. Thanks. (Only problem is that my moral debt to WebmasterWorld keeps growing.)

I tried to double click the green arrow. Works sometimes and other times not. Haven't figured out what causes the difference.

The hosting company for most of my websites has a File Management. I have to admit that I have never investigated all posibilities. Some of them are definitely beyond me. But I had not even read Preferences. Now I have and I read this question:

"Do you want to show hidden files?" I checked "yes", so now I can read and edit them directly at the web hotel.
