I am looking at buying a SSL certificate here in a few days, but I also heard of something called McAfee Secure. What do you think of this product? Have you had personal experience with it?

Maybe a better question is what have you done with your website to make it more secure, and give customers confidence that their data is safe?

Do you think the "Green Bar" SSL certificate is worth the money? Where would you buy from?

Is it still $1700?

I'm interested to hear what you find out. I don't really understand what they can do to make your website *more* secure outside of the certificate.

I have seen those McAfee secure icons popping up all over the place, tho. There must be something positive about it.

As far as the green bar, I've seen one for around $800 at geotrust. I don't believe they claim to make your website more secure tho.

Why doesn't McAfee post a price for the certificate on their website.

Yeah, I don't think the "Green Bar" is that much more secure either. I believe that they require a more extensive "background check" when you purchase the SSL.

I don't know all that much about McAfee Secure, I would suspect that they offer monitoring services for youe website to see if you have any "holes". I don't know, maybe they just slap their seal on it, charge you a few thousand, and call it secure.

What I am interested in is the following:

Have there been any studies on the affect the green bar has on conversion rate?

Has anyone had good results with McAfee Secure?
