Hi

I am wondering if it's possible to have 2 name servers with the same domain name on 1 IP? Such as ns1.domain.com and ns2.domain.com? I was able to setup it up but when I try to add the nameserver with the website where I register my domain. It was telling me that I can't have 2 nameservers that are from the same IP. I am wondering if that's true and if I should pay to get more IP? Thanks

There is not really any point in having multiple name servers on the same IP since the whole purpose of having multiple IP addresses (servers) is to provide redundancy.

yes, you need 2 different nameservers, that should be 2 different machines (at least 2 IP addresses). Some registrars furthermore require these 2 machines being in diffferent IP-subnets.
Before investing more money just on an own 2nd DNS server machine, you could try the following setup: set up your primary DNS on your one server you have (don't forget the glue record then), and put your secondary nameserver somewhere else, e.g. xname.org or generaldns.com.
