When I viewed the domain I realized they had copied the clients site layout and many of the graphics that I had created.
The site was early in its creation and under the designer's domain.
I e-mailed the designers and informed them they were under a copyright violation.
They promptly removed the graphics yet still retain some of the layout properties.
The only thing that tipped me off was that they used FrontPage as an editior in the theft process and resulting it calling for an image from the [www...] address of my clients domain.
This is a feature I REALLY LIKE about FrontPage, it is bad at theft!
Unfortunately I haven't been able to use it anymore cuz I banned all microsoft stuff except for 98 from my design computer. Guess what? Its fast and it hardly ever crashes.
Plus, there is another site, in total, with different graphics..she will get a lovely phone call about that, followed by an email...its just straight html, no front page.
I had no results with the site owner but it is in the terms of service with web hosting not to have anything on the server in violation of copyright. I've got screenshots of everything for documentation, plus the original code in files..I never delete anything. And this is where Google cache comes in handy, I have screenshots of the whole layout with my copyright notice on it from the Google cache. Didn't even have to show it.
Sometimes a strong note to the host gets action. Now it's the second round. Depending on where it is, venue for court can be local if the work was done in the county. That's the case here in Los Angeles.
