It is more compatable with more Word .DOC file formats than Word itself. I've got doc files going back to v2.x(?) that Word will not open, yet OpenOffice has no problem with.
That is one of the major great things about OpenOffice, is all the wide ranging file formats it can import.

Someone should start/post a list of open source/freeware programs like this so that we can all get on the same page and endorse them.
AVG ANTI-VIRUS (FREE VERSION) and SPYBOT SEARCH AND DESTROY are two of my favorite free utilities.
Of course, HTMLKIT is the shiznit if you want a really fast-as-notepad, expansive Web Editor. And EYEDROPPER is a extra-handy color picker that lets you cut and paste HTML Hex color codes after you capture the color.

I've been using it for everything word pro. I'd not been using the spreadsheet because I thought it was too slow, but the 1.1 version seems a whole lot better.
The HTML editor is surprisingly good. Beats the hell out of the M-word.

Yep, I have been using it for over a year now. I love it.
I've been using it for several years now. Since I'm operating under Linux, I didn't really have much choice after the experimental Linux version of Framemaker was canned. But I'm happy with the functionality, and each new version makes me happier.
Yes, me too. Still have Word, but only since it came free with the new PC. Other than that, I use OpenOffice.
The PDF-creator is new to version 1.1.
