ive taken on the resposibility of SEO on three excisting websites, they all appear when u search for the company name on google and a few other search engines, we are currently trying to get atleast one of them listed in the odp but we've been wating 4 months now.

What id like to know is how can i move on from this stage, this isnt something that ive had to do in the past and i have been busy researching for over 5 months now,

can anyone point me to any posts of websites that can benefit me?

You dont need to wait for a listing in the ODP before you can move on, its not that important. I would concentrate on getting some high quality link pointing toward your sites.

Your on the best site on the web, IMO no other site can benefit you more.

Perhaps if you elaborate on the areas of SEO that are giving you a headache, folk will help you out. (without specifics of course)

If your clients can afford it, submit to Yahoo while you await the ODP listing. Search the ODP for industry-related directories & submit to them.

Lilliabeth,
Im pretty sure scipfactor was specifically referring to the yahoo directory...If you have money to spend on directory listings then you may as well submit to yahoo.
Humpingdan?
There are a few other directories worth listing also. Joeant is one, you can pay to be listed or become an editor and list for free. IMO Joeant is the easiest to become an editor.
If it is a non-commercial site, or you have pages with non-commercial content...submit to the Zeal directory for free by becoming an editor, not as easy as Joeant. MSN gets it's directory listings from zeal & looksmart.

Dont "wait" on listings to be approved. Move on to getting more links, or spend your time more constructively by optimizing all of the pages on your site for the keywords that are specific to each of the pages.

Good luck, you've come to the right place, everything you need is here at WW. Just in case you have'nt found it, here's a link to brett famous Successful Site In Google... [webmasterworld.com]

He should submit to Yahoo just because he has the money?

The Yahoo SERPs I look at look like Google SERPs

What advantage is there to submitting to Yahoo?

Its an incoming from a respected directory, that even G recommends you get a link from in their webmaster info section.

Also, Y! isn't going to be using G search results forever, its a good time to get in before they change the rules.

Just to clarify:

Google has a search function (you're listed automatically if Google's spider finds your site when crawling the web - therefore you need incoming links). Google also has a directory - this is a modified form of the data produced at dmoz.org.

Yahoo has a search function - currently it uses Google's results but will apparently soon switch to using Inktomi results. Yahoo also has a directory - this is a pay-for-inclusion directory at $299 a shot (whether you get approved for listing or not). That's the price per year. The Yahoo directory can be a useful source of Google PageRank (albeit a relatively expensive one) as another incoming link - this will assist your position in the main search results.

When people refer to submitting to Yahoo, they mean submitting to the Yahoo directory (and paying the money). To get listed in the Google Directory you need to submit your site to dmoz.org and then wait for Google to update its directory with the latest listings (currently it is around six months out of date).
