Do the engines do anything about spam reports, more than likely they theme them and then try and tweak the algo. But there will always be flaws, once one closes another is found. That cycle has been going on in many industries since time itself.
There is another theory of why should we do the work for the engines, if they cant catch the spammer that is their problem they need to look into it. It is clear they watch their own serps and will know how much horse is in their db, so why do they need the reports to tell them:
“This site has hidden words”
I can hear the search engine code monkey:
“Jesus, no way , hidden words, we had better look at it in person this minute, find it within the db and remove it right away, well ok I will do it after the other 4 MILLION such sites”
We should not degrade ourselves by always wanting to tell tales, I see posts about not just the serps but things like Adsence. What will be next?
The man next to me in the pub is with this really fit bird, I think he may be cloaking the size of his manhood, can I report it to her
:)
I see it as a way of justifying failure to do well. If I don't do well in the serps it clearly can't be any fault of mine, it must be the fault of the people above me.
Concentrate on your own work has been a motto of sorts around here for as long as I've been around and doubtless well before I found this place.
It's good advice.
