I looked around on Google and most of what I found was old -from 1996-2001. I couldn't find anything newer that addressed the random characters.

Almost all, but not every one of the emails sent to my domain include this in the headers. Characters following X-UIDL appear to be random characters and punctuation marks.

First noticed them in the preview window of Mailwasher with full headers on. One source suggested they were used to keep track of read/downloaded messages from the server, but these are retained in the headers after downloading/reading them to my email client.

Changed hosts last week, but checked and they were in the emails sent from previous host, too. As far as I can tell they started showing up in emails on 8/26 around 6:30PM.

It isn't something my ISP is putting in there because they aren't in any emails sent to my ISP email address which I also preview in Mailwasher.

any ideas?

Thanks

Hi nancyb,

I've just gone thru a bunch of messages in Eudora Lite and found several of those (apparently) random generated markings. Most of the SpamAssasin messages had it as well as some other clients.

In my opinion these markings are in some fashion situationally specific to e-mail clients. If I'm wrong, rest assured someone will point it out.
