Verisign adds wildcard A record to .com and .net

Unregistered domains point to 64.94.110.11

Now if you try to resolve unregistered .com or .net domains, you'll get redirected to http://sitefinder.verigign.com/, not get a 'Host not found' as usual. Mail sent to unregistered domains will be rejected also.

What is happening appears to be described here: http://www.iab.org/Documents/icann-vgrs-response.html but was not active until yesterday. As described in that document, this is a violation of the DNS RFCs, and verisign is abusing the trust given to the root servers.

Try it with something like http://hirchorechnth.com

or

telnet rcgonthnthjko.com 25

They must have re-activated it again. The redirector is spottily slow, it must be tough to handle every single typo'd domain :)
