Popular Tags you see in many big sites with different font sizes and boldness in a box? What are they?

I can be certain it is for the search engines. Why are not used in medium sized websites? Sites like Zend.com have used them, but they don't make the page that interesting there.

The question should have been more of why they haven't been used in many more websites. Do you use them for example?

I hope we are talking about the same thing. I try to make my questions a little bit wider (vague) to hear more about the issue at hand, but can't say I don't have a clue :)

Habtom,

Are you referring to <h> tags? I don't believe people generally know how to use them to their full effectiveness and often misuse them as tags for bolding rather than topic emphasis.

Are you talking about Tag Clouds? If so, some are larger because they are more popular. It gives you the ability to look at a cloud of tags and see where the action is.

I think that we have to clarify the sort of tags we are talking about

He is talking about the tags you see on sites. Like the ones on the Technorati homepage for example.

I see them as coming from smart webmasters who used to take common searches on their site and build content filled pages, now this is just a tool to do the same

people are just being trendy with an old idea

"Tags are typically used for resources such as computer files, web pages, digital images, and internet bookmarks (both in social bookmarking services, and in the current generation of web browsers - see Flock" via wikipedia
