If Virtual Sites are redirected (perminant 301) to another website, will robots / spider follow the redirection?
If they do, will they index the found content at the original domain or the redirected one?

Welcome to WebmasterWorld Petef.
They will be redirected to the new site and will index what they find there.

Hi Bill,
Thank you for the Welcome. Thanks for that. I was not sure.
In the scenario that the robot is looking at www.a.a.a domain, and gets redirected to www.b.b.b, do you know if the indexing will record the findings agains www.a.a.a or the redirected domain of www.b.b.b.
Thanks again.

A 301 redirect will affect the SE spiders the same way they affect your browser. They get pushed to the new site/page. The old content is no longer accessible for them.
However, how long it takes for them to update this information in the SERPs is anyone's guess.
