Looking to add a calendar feature to a site:
- that is expandable beyond what I have searched/found so far ..
Lets use USA College Events as an example:
1A) Looking for something that will allow an easy - customizable [templated?] form/area so that schools across the country can easily update/input their events - from a .csv file or other "suggested" input ..[whatever works best]
...and be able to submit/change -edit/update information in the future.
In other words to try to make it as easy as possible for the webmaster to have current - up to date information - instead of a "dead" calendar that was accurate on Jan 1st - but not even close come Aug 1st
1B) Would like there to be a linkable entry in the calendar so that users can click on it to learn more - or go to a new page

Existing applications that I see are mostly very size limiting - using the standard square box format for showing "time" - and if there was more than 5-6 events on single day - it makes it pretty much impossible to present the events in a worthwhile format ...
Filters:
2) Features to "filter" the kinds of events? ie. swimming/track/basketball etc.
3)Geographic Filtering - State/County/Zip Code - or something of the like ...
I am sure there are many other features I / others would love to see ...but I am sure most of you are thinking that - "well - this guy doesn't ask for much does he ...."
That's why I am not wasting my time posting this on any other forums - as I have come to respect the opinions and the open sharing of ideas that have made WebmasterWorld.com such a great forum and resource over the years.

Inspired by what I have seen with some of the new AJAX/Web 2.0 etc style of coding - and since I am working to think outside of the "box" of the existing calendar applications that I have found - maybe something along these lines?
Currently everything I have been involved with in development has been in the usual LAMP mode with the P = php
[which has worked out very well]
But I am "throwing open the doors of thought" - to look for something that just might fit the bill.
Please comment on this thread if you have found something that you are "ecstatic" about in the calendar side of things ...
Maybe an application that has been overlooked - I am willing to look at everything ...
Maybe this is a great new business opportunity for someone out there ... many of the threads on this subject - end with people still searching ....

It could be (as I see it) a tool that upon registering could become a calendar “mall”
First page
Offers a bunch of links to “members” a la “Craig list”
Plus randomly showcase one member cal
When registering each member creates a dir
And triggers a template cal copy which they may edit…
It generates a link to the cal
You will make the whole thing searchable
The rest is only (After tons of code) a matter of presenting the data
Etc….
