Can any one recommend a way to provide a search capability for a web site? Preferably free and easy to install. My ISP no longer provides this for me. I was using Architext.

Also, I would prefer not to use any external search engines such as Google.

thanks

depending on what scripting languages are available to you there are many options. Have you tried looking through sites like hotscripts.com for solutions?

some that have been mentioned
phpdig
htdig
DGS Search
aspseek

there are many others as well.

There are third party services that will index your site for free. I have been using FreeFind for over a year, very satisfied.

They have a huge advantage over Google, in that the Google site search uses the Google index, which is updated at Google's convenience. the third party search services allow you to request re-indexing on either a regular schedule or on request.

I would highly recomend Atomz. Its a third party site search which is free for sites under 500 pages.
