Blatant spam

How do people get away with it?

I have this guy sending spam to every email address I have offering to list my sites in his directory.

There's an unsubscribe link too, but I didn't subscribe in the first place so why should I unsubscribe, only to invite more junk.

From his domain extension (.us) he's clearly from the US. I'm wondering, how even after so much noise over spam, such people continue to survive. Do they have a cooperative host or are they hosting offshore with companies that are ignorant or just plain unaffected?

I received what sounds like the same offer this morning. If you google the site name, xxxxxxxx.us, the first result explains that the offer is basically asking you to pay for inclusion in an ODP clone!

You ask how people get away with obvious spam-unfortunately, even though most people are against it, it is not illegal in most cases for spammers to operate. Look how long it took for something to be done about unsolicited telemarketing. It is still legal, but at least now there is a method for us to block our number from most telemarketers.

I am a little afraid of government regulations concerning the web, but it would be nice if ISP's and hosting providers would clamp down on this activity.
