Does linking to websites under same host help?

Still a newbie, need help.

There is a website I link to and the webmaster wants me to link to some other sites he hosts. Does the really help me as far as reciprocal linking even when all these sites are with the same host? I'm new to being a webmaster and am making mistakes and learning. Thank you.

As a general rule, I wouldn't recommend getting involved in this. You linking to other sites isn't going to help you. You want others to link to you. That might be part of his plan. But it just isn't great.

Build compelling content. Then go out and ask people to link to your new compelling content.

If people would take the energy they spend in trying to set up link schemes and devote that energy to good content the whole world would be better off.
