Site size on server versus local?

The owner of the company that hosts my site has been complaining to me about the amount of space my site consumes on the server, as well as the amount of bandwidth my site uses.

The site uses 50 to 60 gigs a month of bandwidth. However, the hosting company advertises unlimited bandwidth, so I just remind him of that.

As for the amount of server space, though, when I look at the folder on my local machine, it's 113.8 mb. That's everything: images, pages, etc.

The owner of the company is saying that my site is taking up 2 gigs of space on the server.

I don't understand how that could be. Any explanations?

He might be including logfiles, although I don't think it would bump it up that high. This guy sounds a bit shady, if you ask me. If he advertises unlimited bandwidth then he doesn't need to complain about it.

Ask him where he's seeing the extra space. You show him your numbers, then it's up to him to show you where he's getting his numbers.

Outside of server logs you might also have stats files that are automatically created, email accounts and sometimes they even keep your bash history in your account root. I agree, contact him and ask specifically where the numbers are coming from.
