Common Client Updates - Norton A\V

What do they do and would you update them?

I always update virus definitions but what do the others do? Ie - Common Client Updates\ Common Driver\Sym Event and Live Reg.
Is it necessary to update these or would you ignore them?

I only trust PCCillin, Norton commes in second
and MCaffee is a nightmare about compatibility and uninstalling often generating havoc!

I do all AV updates
but am very careful in updating the patch that patches the preview patches etc...
A good idea is to let a couple of days passing and review a few PC tech boards to look for problems
I know about those tech forum among others I run one of those :)
and often did read about real bad problems
to be honest most are user's generated!
