I have an e-mail address that gets 99% of my spam. The only place that this address exists online is my contact info for my domains.

Today I received an e-mail with a PDF attached. The e-mail explains that there has been a settlement in a class action lawsuit filed against my registrar and the details of the settlement are in the PDF file. It seems legit because it is the contact e-mail for the registrar, but with all of the virus e-mails going to that address I am a little suspecious.

Here's why it bothers me, if they were notifying everyone, wouldn't they e-mail me for each domain? or would they know enough to realize that all 8 of mine have the same contact info?

Also, has anyone heard of a class action suit against this registrar? I would expect that I would have heard about this before receiving this e-mail.

Thanks for any info.

In my (limited) experience with class actions suits, you are sent a document by mail which you must sign to opt-out of the class action suit if you wish to do so.

Since I've only been involved with 2-3 of these, my limited experience is by no means to be considered "how things are done".

I've been notified a few times about class action suits. In each case the notice came by mail. I can't imagine that they'd involve you in the action without a physical signature.

That's what I thought as well, seems strange that it would come by email when they have my address.

It's either a very creative spammer, or a very tricky virus.

I think I'm going to delete the file. No sense in taking a chance. There is just too much data on this machine for me to loose, and besides I don't have any problems with my registrar, as far as I'm concerned they haven't done anything to me.
