We're looking for a hosting company in the United States that can either colocate our webservers or provide us with a dedicated webserver system. We have thousands of websites and use quite a bit of bandwidth.

Can anyone recommend a good provider? Failing that, can anyone point out any bad providers?

Thank you

Welcome to WebmasterWorld doppelganger! :)

We try avoid specific discussions about individual companies. Possible liability issues and attracting advertising to the discussion are some of the main reasons. Please confine specific recommendations for or against a hosting company to stickymail.

WestHost and Pair Networks are most often suggested by our members.

doppelganger,

If you are looking for an expensive and very reliable host, then Rackspace [rackspace.com...] is the ideal choice, otherwise Rackshack [rackshack.net...] can also give you great uptime and with low cost.

I have been with Rackspace since 2 years with almost 0% downtime and with Rackshack since 2 months with no downtime. But in terms of service, nobody beats Rackspace :)

Don't go for those fly-by-night-companies which would provide you with very low cost hosting. Other way is also to check in Google Groups by searching with the company's name and you could learn about individual experiences if anyone has posted.

Good luck.
