Bogus members

What is their motive?

We are getting a steady stream of bogus members - most of whom pass validation (including e-mail validation). The nonsensical names are a tipoff (xssreqiw, gamikton, vlaksesd) in a forum where most people use a portion of their real name. The bogus members also all select the same user time zone GMT - 12:00.

These 'people' never post. They don't fill out profiles. No urls. What then is their motive? If I google one of the names I'll often find they've joined dozens of obscure forums, so is Google ranking the sole purpose?

Perhaps their purpose is to start posting or start filling out profiles later...

It must be the way my mind works Eleanor but when I saw "bogus members" I thought you were a spammer too. (I'm getting a lot of "schlong and weenie" spam lately) ;)
